C&VS Opportunities

Opportunities and support for those in need

In June 2019 we held our 26th consecutive annual KidsOut Day at the Jack Kane Centre. This large-scale event provides stimulating fun activities for some 200 children from special needs schools from the Edinburgh area. Together with their accompanying teachers and carers, 70 Rotarians from Edinburgh, Bathgate, Dalkeith, Haddington, Linlithgow Grange, North Berwick and Tranent and Edinburgh Rotaract Club, also fifty sixth form helpers from Edinburgh schools and the staff manning the various events, nearly five hundred people were involved. The wide selection of fun activities, ice cream, lunch, disco and the camaraderie led to a great day for everyone.

Unfortunately, KidsOut Day in 2020 has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Our

Seniors’ Outings each September provide company and entertainment for residents of local care homes. Members collect our guests and carers from their Homes and take them to the King’s Manor Hotel, Edinburgh, where they enjoy High Tea and chat followed by community singing.

This year (2020), the COVID-19 virus has mage these outings impossible.  Instead, we have provided a box of upmarket biscuits to selected Care Homes.

Rotary Edinburgh’s Christmas Parcels and Vouchers bring some Christmas cheer into the lives of those living in hostels or in need.

Working with Tesco, we provide 60 festive parcels of groceries to residents of four hostels for distribution to their residents or those in need. We also give vouchers for toiletries and groceries to Edinburgh Women’s Aid. Providing these parcels and vouchers at Christmas helps brighten the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves in our local community and shows that Rotary cares.

Along with Rotary Clubs throughout Great Britain and Ireland we take part in the Stroke Association’s annual Stroke Prevention Day to raise awareness of this potentially life-threatening health issue. Our Medics and nurses use their skills to offer free blood pressure to the public checking in the Gyle Shopping Centre and also at North Edinburgh Arts.
