Wed, Nov 25th 2020 at 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Our speaker this evening was Jackline Awenge, Global Scholar from Nairobi.

Jackline Awenge Global Scholar from Nairobi

Jackline is a Rotary Global Scholar coming to us with a BSc in Microbiology and Biotechnology from the University of Nairobi to study for a Masters at Bath University. Her experience since gaining her Bachelor degree has been at the CDC (Centre for Disease Control) presence in the Kenya Medical Research Institute and includes cell culture with the Zika and Dengue viruses, molecular work with DNA, microbiology work with bacteria and identification of antibodies in serum.  Those terms seem very familiar as we come to terms with  coronavirus.

We are in the process of developing Rotary Inter Country relations with Kenya and following our Sand Dam projects with Nairobi North Rotary her talents came to our attention.  Having been a Rotaractor she has an understanding of Rotarians.  Bringing her to study at Bath University is a  joint project of Rotary in Kenya, Rotary in Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire and Rotary in Surrey, Sussex and parts of Hampshire and six Greater London boroughs.

Jackline plans to tell us about her life in Kenya and now over here as a student during COVID and her ambitions back home in Kenya for the future.
