Purple 4 Polio Crocus Corm Sales

Our stall under the Buttercross

On Thursday 15th October we were under The Buttercross in Bingham selling purple crocus corms in aid of Purple 4 Polio and End Polio Now.
World Polio Day, is on 24th October, and this year we shall have something special to celebrate:  a few weeks ago Africa was declared free of polio.
This is a significant milestone for Rotary, which has worked tirelessly over more than 30 years to eliminate the disease.  Our efforts have not just been fundraising – Rotarians in many countries have organised immunisation days and have provided the voluntary manpower to make them happen.
We have worked with the World Health Organisation and latterly also with the Bill and Malinda Gates Foundation, and together we have almost reached our goal.  Polio is now endemic in just two countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan, and the number of cases so far this year is less than 150.
We should like to thank everyone who bought some crocus corms from our stand or who made a donation.  Your help will help us finally rid the world of this terrible disease.
