Over 30 years ago, the then RI President challenged all Rotarians to END POLIO NOW or within 20 years.
Rotarians rose to that challenge raising funds, delivering vaccines, working in the field and in general making the world a better place - even if the 20 year target was missed - there are 500,000 less cases each year than 30 years ago - what an achievement!
We Are So Close!
That challenge has remained with me all of this time and our yearly Swimarathon has become a regular fixture on the calendar.
The traditional date in February cannot happen in the traditional format thanks to Covid19 restrictions, BUT POLIO ERADICATION STILL NEEDS YOU! So here is the new challenge.
If your local pool is open please encourage your your friends, family and local schools to get sponsored and swim on any day at any time and as many days as they can during February and raise cash for Polio!
If your pool is closed don't worrry you don't need to swim, try walking or jogging a mile or get the bike out of the shed and see just how many miles you can clock up for Polio. Get your friends and family involved and most important of all, have fun!
Many schools walk a mile a day to promote fitness, so try asking your local Rotakids or Interact clubs or local teachers if they are willing to get involved.
