Helping Local People and Organisations - Our motto: "Service Above Self "

Thanks to a very generous donor, who wanted to help Ukrainians who have settled in our area, Leigh Rotary were able to take a coach load of 45 adults and children to see the Blackpool illuminations. On arriving in Blackpool, they were able to walk along the prom or try a fish and chips supper, then were driven along part of the seafront to see the magnificent display.

This was a good chance for Ukrainian families to bond together and share their experiences and they expressed their grateful thanks to Rotary and the generous donor.

A sell-out Boxing Tournament was held at St Joseph’s Hall, between Leigh Amateur Boxing Club and NW England, which raised £2664 for the Leigh Club as they continue to refurbish and carry out repairs to their club facilities.

Over 200 attended and were treated to some amazing boxing, with boxers of all ages from 8 years upwards. Leigh won 5 bouts and NW England won 5 with 2 drawn.

Everyone had an excellent night and the money raised will be well spent helping local young people.

Leigh Rotary Helps the NHS

An initiative by Leigh Rotary Club to collect unused Hospital Equipment to help the NHS has been declared a roaring success!

People have been astonished that they have not been able to return Hospital Equipment after they have finished using it. Leigh Rotary Club decided to help people out, whilst saving money for the NHS, by enabling the public to drop off unwanted equipment at Tesco over one weekend.

Four van loads were collected by Wigan Council who will repair and refurbish the items. These included crutches, walking sticks, walking frames, washing and toilet aids and wheelchairs.

Rotary Club President Frank Bowker, said, “This was a terrific community project, saving money for the local Hospital Trust. We would like to thank the general public and Leigh Tesco for their support.”
