Host & Reception: Will be resumed when Covid restrictions are relaxed
VoT: Allan Scott

The guest speaker at tonight’s meeting of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw was Matt Davis, a self-confessed, food lover, wildlife enthusiast, ex-scientist, transport geek, cricket fan and, currently, Partnerships Manager of Sustrans. Via Zoom, he informed members that Sustrans Scotland is a charity providing advice, support and funding that makes it easier for people to walk and cycle on everyday journeys.

Matt talked about a number of projects that Sustrans was working on, referring to Places for Everyone where funding had been obtained for ambitious projects to create safe, attractive, healthier places to increase the number of trips made by walking and cycling.

The National Cycle Network in Scotland has been promoted, and developed, by Sustrans, in conjunction with a number of agencies. Another project is Street Design, an award winning design and engagement service that empowered communities to transform their neighbourhoods and urban spaces.

Finally, Matt touched on Sustrans’ other initiatives - transforming the school run, resources for teachers, the Scottish Workplace Journey Challenge, the Edinburgh Cargo Bike Library and the Way to Work Website. After a question and answer session, Allan Scott proposed the vote of thanks.

Willie Talbot updated members with the weekly bonus ball advising that Jim Peat was the winner of the five-week rollover.

Jean Murray updated members on the "Wrap Up" project and requested that as many members as possible be available this coming Monday at the Hamilton storage facility to sort all the clothes that had been donated.
