Damage to homes

Aqua Box and The Haiti Earhtquake Disaster

We live in times when catastrophic disasters are easily overlooked when even greater calamities occurr.

On the 15th August an earthquake of  7.9 magnitude occurred in Haiti, considered to be one of the poorest countries  in the world, 2,200 diedand 21,000 injured. Communications have been badly damaged, roads blocked and water supplies disrupted. The supply of  clean drinking water is the most urgent problem.

Aqua Box UK is despatching water filters for  individual, family and community use and Malton and Norton Rotary club is supporting the shipment financially and has purchased  five ' Gold Aqua Boxes' for distribution. For further details of what an Aquabox contains see https://www.aquabox.org/what-we-do/our-aid-boxes.html.

Kevin Barclay of Aquabox, has written to say:

" Aquabox is working to get urgent aid to Haiti, following the devastating earthquake which hit the country recently. The 7.2 magnitude quake is known to have  left over 600,000 in need of emergency assistance. We are currently in discussion with our partners in the Caribbean to establish which of them are best placed to provide safe and urgent distribution of aid. We are planning to ship a combination of Family Filters and Community Filters. Our stock is ready for despatch once we are confident that proper and secure distribution routes are in place. This shipment will provide clean water to over 6,000 people. Please thank your Club for supporting Aquabox."
