Seaford Cricket Club Junior Players Share Rotary Trophy

FOUR years ago, Youth Services agreed to sponsor for the next three years, a presentation to the Seaford Cricket Club Junior Player of the Year.

Immediate Past President Martin McGill along with Jim Anderson recently attended the Club’s Junior Awards evening to present the award.

The evening commenced with Ollie Carter, a former member of Seaford Cricket Club who now plays for Sussex presenting awards to the cricketers in the age groups, under 11, under 13 and under 16.

Introducing the award Cricket Club President Phil Court explained that unlike many players of the year awards, this one was judged not just on player ability, but on the contribution made by a boy or girl to the whole running of the Junior Section of the Club.

Announcing the award, Phil Court continued “Because of the pandemic no award was made in 2020, and it has been particularly difficult this year to select one individual winner.  For the first time, therefore, the award is to be shared”.  The award was then presented by Martin McGill to Callum Hall and Liam Hornsby.

Responding on behalf of Seaford Rotary Club, Jim Anderson said how great it was to see so many young people enjoying the game of cricket and he went on to briefly explain the extent to which the Rotary Club aimed to support young people in our town.  Giving just one example he described the Rotary Youth Leadership Award for which, to the best of his knowledge there had never been a representative from Seaford Cricket Club.  He hoped that it may be possible to support someone in the fifteen to eighteen age groups in 2022.

Having completed their task, the three representatives bade their farewells and left, leaving a large gathering of junior and senior players, Club officials, parents and friends to enjoy the barbecue and other refreshments.
