Rotary Club of Cheltenham North
January 2022 Bulletin
From the President Geoff Fox
Like everyone else in the Club, I was extremely saddened to hear of Geoff Craven’s demise on Wednesday last (5th January). Geoff had been a very popular Member of our Club for more than 10 years, having been introduced by an old friend, Rodney Hill.
Geoff had very successfully organised the musical content of the Carol Concert for the past ten years, and I thought the recent Concert was the best ever, a fitting tribute, and had advised him accordingly.
A dozen or so, of us recently accepted an invitation to visit the new premises of Open Door off Alstone Road. It proved to be a large, light airy room, with facilities for washing clothes, showering and charging ‘phones, as well as serving meals and relaxing. They serve up to 70 lunch meals three times a week, from what appeared to be a modern well equipped kitchen.
A very successful venture that depends entirely on voluntary contributions, and is more than worthy of our support.
Our 50th Anniversary celebration is fast approaching, and a committee is being set up to organise the event, which is taking place at the Queens Hotel on Thursday 14th April. This is the day before Good Friday, so please postpone your Easter break this year!
Carol Concert Peter Watson
The 43rd Annual Carol Concert was held on Tuesday 14th December in the Princess Hall of the Ladies College. A big thank to everyone who helped make the evening a great success and to our sponsors and those who donated to the event. Just over 400 people attended and enjoyed a mixture of festive music and songs. This year it felt more of a community event with the audience enjoying participating in the carols, a glass of wine and a mince pie! Provisional figures show that we made just over £4,000 for our Charities which during this time of uncertainty is a great result.
This year’s concert will be on Tuesday 13 December 2022
Best wishes for the New year.
