Fruit Trees For Penybont Primary School

On Thursday 21^st April 2022, the Queen’s 96^th birthday, and during the ‘live’ BBC Radio Wales Drive Time programme, Rotary Bridgend discussed their forthcoming planting of fruit trees at Penybontont Primary School to celebrate the Queen’s birthday and her Platinum Jubilee.

Then, on Tuesday 26^th April, the pupils of the Reception Class, assisted by Bridgend Rotarians, dug the holes and planted nine fruit trees, pear, plum and apple, in the school grounds to make an orchard.

This orchard will now become part of the School’s Curriculum and the pupils will learn how to maintain the trees, learn about nature and the environment, gather the fruit and understand how we use it for food in cooking as well as sell it in their ‘Big Bocs Bwyd’ (Big Food Box) project that starts in May 2022.

"I just wanted to thank you on behalf of Penybont Primary for coming in today and working with the children to plant the fruit trees. The children really loved the experience and hopefully they will be able to watch them grow and taste the fruits from the trees they have planted in future years. Please pass on our thanks to all of the Rotarians that attended today it was really appreciated and we all very much enjoyed being able to catch up with old friends!!"
