This popular event, organised by the Rotary Club of Rayleigh Mill, over an undulating course through picturesque, wooded countryside including Gusted Hall, Hockley, Grove, New England, and Cherry Orchard Woods provides a unique experience in the runner’s calendar.
The resurrected event was won by Jason
Baker of House Running Club in a time of 33:44 minutes with Michael Wilkes in second
place in 36:06 minutes and Matt Randall of Southend Athletics Club in third
place in a time of 36:29minutes. The female winner was Stephanie Migliorini of Leigh
on Sea Striders in a time of 40:26 minutes. Second female was Eleanor Johnson
also of Leigh on Sea Striders in 41:25 minutes with Debbie Coyle of Barking
Road Runners in 42:23 minutes in third place.
Michael Wilkes also won the Male Veteran category and Debbie Coyle came first in the Female Veteran category.
Although the total amount has not been calculated, it is hoped that this year’s run will have raised close to £4,000 which will go into the Rotary Club of Rayleigh Mill’s Charity Account. The account is used to help mainly local deserving causes but also, as the occasions arise, national and international charities. The Rayleigh 10k run, as well as providing an interesting and rewarding experience for the local runners, also means that they are contributing to many appeals for help throughout the world.
