President Scott Elliot welcomed speaker Deborah Lyons and guests Wendy Noble and Rosalyn Walker to last weeks meeting.
Deborah, who is well known in Hawick music circles mentioned the people who have influenced and inspired her, - her parents who were both musical and involved with Hawick Operatic Society, Mary Rowell and Bob Brown with singing lessons, and from Hawick Amateur Operatic Society Jean Wintrope, Christine Lyons, Ian Seeley and Jim Letham.
She joined Hawick Operatic Society in 1971 and was involved in 40 productions until her ‘retirement’ in 2012, her Presidential year.
Hawick Opera's centenary pledge was to do something for the youth Act 1 Youth in 2016, who have had amazing success with shows – 2016 Joseph, 2017 The Wizard of Oz, 2018 Annie and in 2019 The Sound of Music and A Christmas Carol. Their latest production, Moana, is planned for later this year.
Many questions from members followed an interesting talk delivered with enthusiasm and passion, after which Jim Walker gave the vote of thanks.
