Rotary in Cumbria and Lancashire ran their eighth Rotakids District Conference at the
University of Cumbria, Lancaster site. It was well attended from Primary Schools around
the district.
This year the Rotary Club of Brampton and Longtown were represented by Warwick Bridge
Rotakids who had an informative, exciting and fun day. The event allows the school children
to mix with other Rotakids over the course of the day as they complete a range of different
and well organised activities. These included fire safety from Lancashire Fire and Rescue
Service, Bee keeping from Lune Beekeepers, Plant and Grow sessions, music making, bracelet
and badge making and the Lune River Trust project.
The final session in the lecture theatre included a musical presentation to everyone by some
of the Rotakids, providing a great example of what can be learned in a short space of time.
They received well deserved applause.
A super day was had by all and is a fantastic example of Rotary in Action bringing Rotakids
together to share and learn.
Rotakids Groups are often based in junior schools and they are a great way for the youngsters to make friends, become involved in projects and fundraising in their local communities whilst learning about citizenship. The different Rotakids groups decide upon their own activities, whilst having fun, and are supported by their teachers and the local Rotary club.
Mark Ashton, Headteacher at Warwick Bridge School says …….
‘The pupils had an excellent time at the Lancaster Conference. There was a wealth of
activities and engaging tutors who gave them all a valuable insight into an array of
different practises. All of the children talked about the day and they especially liked
meeting the other RotaKids from Lancashire. We will definitely be back again next year’.
