Bucks Young Carers Sailing Days

2 days of sailing instruction

On July 28th and August 8th this year, Princes Risborough Rotary Club sponsored and arranged two days of sailing instruction for 2 groups of 15 Young Carers from Aylesbury and Wycombe. The weather was warm and there was enough wind for a good day on the water at Bury Lakes, Rickmansworth.

The 10-13 year old Young Carers had no previous experience of sailing but by the end of each day had become quite proficient. Four Rotary members provided a sumptuous BBQ lunch for the children including burgers, sausages, fruit pies and water melon with a Magnum ice cream to end the day..

These days were really enjoyed by the Young Carers, who care for a family member who is disabled or suffers a long-term debilitating illness. The families are often underprivileged and these days are likely to be one of the few times they have a chance to get some respite from their family circumstances.

Princes Risborough Rotary Club is proud to provide such an opportunity for these children to enjoy themselves with their peers, and to experience a new skill.
