Help for Halima

This is Halima, a grandmother in Mwanza, Tanzania, with her two grandchildren twins, Aria and Ariana. Our club is sponsoring her during her journey to greater independence via the five step Marisha Matters programme run by the charity Forever Angels.

1.    Crisis Support – providing emergency items, mosquito nets, mattresses, blankets, clothes and cooking equipment

2.    Training – providing weekly education and training in hygiene, child development , HIV/AIDS and malaria prevention and primary health care.

3.    Empowerment – working with the family to help with setting up a business in their community so that with ongoing income the family can provide for themselves. 

4.    Independence – working closely with families giving them a hand-up so they can be independent and free from poverty.

 Halima is caring for her two grandchildren, whose mother died tragically from excessive bleeding immediately after giving birth to them. They were referred to the Marisa Matters programme when they were only three weeks old on 20 July 2022. Ariana weighed 2.1 kilos and Aria 1.8 kilos. Halima brings the girls to Marisha Matters each week to collect milk, where she also gets to take part in our training workshops.  She is really enjoying learning about food, nutrition, water hygiene and child care. 
The twins have both gained weight and are doing really well in Halima’s loving care.

Halima has a very small business selling vegetables and that is how she makes a living at present.  But in a few months we will support her to increase her capital so boosting her business so she can support the girls once they are weaned.
