Wensleydale Wander 2023 Report

A much improved turnout of 346 runners and walkers showed that we are finally recovering from the effects of the Covid lock downs.

The weather was ideal for both runners and walkers , with the sun shining and visibility excellent, so perfect for enjoying the great views, though the ground was soft and muddy in places.

Both Walks were started at 9.00am in Grove Square, Leyburn, by Club President Mrs Ray Wilkinson, though walkers first gathered for registration at Wensleydale School. There was a choice of two circular walks, one a 23 mile challenge and a shorter one of 12 miles, both starting and finishing in Leyburn. There were liquid refreshments at various checkpoints on both walks, and the walks ended at the school, where a choice of hot soups and cakes, plus more liquid refreshments were served to some very hot and tired walkers.

We would like to thank the RAYNET volunteer radio operators, our wives/husbands, and of course all walkers and runners for supporting the event. We have cleared  £3600, which will be divided between principal charity Yorkshire Air Ambulance, BlueBoxt, and our other local charities.

Finally, thanks to Rtns Chris Wheatley and Richard Pennell for the photos.
