Members of Rockcliffe Rotakids who raised funds for Carlisle Foodbank by undertaking a sponsored swim, were rewarded towards the end of April with a visit to the Foodbank to see for themselves the work that they do.
They were amazed by the size of the operation and how much food was being donated.
Taking with them two boxes of donated items collected at the school, the first task was to unpack the goods and check that all the “Sell by” and “Use by” dates were current. They then sorted the items and put them on appropriate shelves. Two teams were then given bags and filled them according to a fixed list.
They were told that this task required a large team of volunteers and that over 500 Adult Bags and 150 Children’s Bags were issued every week.
They were suitably impressed and having raised their target amount in record time, presented their cheque of £500.
