With Christmas just over three months away, Club members spent a pleasant afternoon in the sunshine potting hyacinth bulbs in readiness for selling in the weeks leading up to Christmas. In all just over 2,100 bulbs were planted in peat-free-compost in recycled plastic pots.
The compost and bulbs arrived in the morning delivered by David Weston. A couple of our members helped to unload and then set up the tables and made sure that the compost, pots and bulbs were in place ready for a prompt start of work at 14.00 hours.
Everything went to plan and on the dot planting started. Steady at first but in no time at all the rate of production increased to such an extent that the two members transferring the bulbs from the production lines to the storage area, where they were neatly stacked, could hardly keep pace. Within two hours just over 700 pots were planted and stored away. Each pot had exactly the right number of bulbs (three) and none were planted upside-down!
Once again, our thanks and appreciation goes to Mavis for allowing us to plant the bulbs and store them at her property. We really appreciated the mid-afternoon refreshments including the delicious rock cakes!.
