Abergavenny Rotary Club Celebrated World Polio Day on 24 October 2023 by planting 8,000 crocus corms in partnership with Friends of Bailey Park.

Rotary is on the brink of polio history.

For more than 30 years Rotary has led the campaign to rid the world of polio, protecting 2.5 billion children from paralysis and death.

With Rotary advocacy and fundraising, we are on the brink of one of the greatest global health achievements ever. Polio has been eradicated in all countries of the world except for Afghanistan and Pakistan where there are still a small number of cases of wild polio each year.

For the fourth year running members of the Abergavenny Rotary Club celebrated World Polio Day on 24 October 2023 by planting another 4,000 Purple for Polio crocus corms on the Waitrose Roundabout in Abergavenny. In March 2024 the roundabout will be a blaze of purple with 16,000 crocus corms in full bloom. We have been joined this year by Friends of Bailey Park who have also planted 4,000 Purple for Polio Crocus Corms in Bailey Park this Autumn to mark World Polio Day. The Park will also be a blaze of purple in March 2024.
