The Quizmaster Cup was won this time by The Manor & Black Rock Grill - Alconbury with a marvellous score of 187 from the 195 questions. They chose C.A.T.S (Childrens’ Acute Transport Services) as the charity that will receive £300 as a result of the win, whilst the team will also win a dozen bottles of wine.
In second place was Lakeside Lodge Golf & Country Club, scoring 186 points, who split their £200 prize money between the two Captains’ charities; Dementia UK and Huntingdon Community Cancer Network. They also win 6 bottles of wine which I suspect will be used for future fundraising raffles!
The largest team prize, also £200, was won by The Anchor Inn at Wimblington, who chose Myeloma UK as their charity. They had a magnificent 42 people in their team.
All top ten teams won prize money for their chosen charities –
The Market Inn, Huntingdon were 3rd with 184 points and donated £120 to Young Lives against Cancer.
The Three Horseshoes, Graveley were 4th with 182 points and gave £110 to the Alzheimers Society.
In 5th place with 181 points were The White Swan at Conington, donating £100 to Pinpoint, who provide disability services and support for the parents and carers of young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
Four teams tied on 180 points and shared the prizemoney, getting £75 for their charities -
Floods Tavern donated to the Mayor of St Ives’ charity.
Buckden Village Club chose MAGPAS.
The Three Horseshoes at Houghton gave their donation to EACH (East Anglia Childrens Hospices),
The Bell Inn at Great Paxton chose to donate to the Great Paxton Recreation Ground fund.
In 10th place, The Jolly Sailor in Ramsey chose Dementia UK to receive their £50 donation.
The next ten pubs, scoring between 159 and 170 points each, were – The Three Horseshoes at Wistow, The George at Ramsey Fortyfoot, The Haywain in St Ives, The Cock in Hemingford Grey, The Hare on the Green in Brampton, the Horseshoe in Offord D’Arcy, The Anchor at Wimblington, The Rose and Crown in Somersham, The Royal Oak in Hail Weston, The Anchor at Little Paxton and The Green Man, Leighton Bromswold.
Other pubs participating on the night were The Royal Oak at Warboys, The Mad Cat at Pidley, The Angel in Ramsey, The Axe and Compass in Hemingford Abbots, The Three Compasses in Upper Dean, The White Swan in Bluntisham, The Centurion Social Club in Somersham, Sutton Conservative Club, The Rivermill at Eaton Socon, St Neots Conservative Club, and Greystones in Sawtry.
In the region of £2,500 has been raised, with £1,380 sent directly to the charities listed above. The Rotary Club of St Ives will use the remaining funds to continue their support for local, national and international charities, causes and projects.
