Our Local Community

The RCLR serves with the local community in a number of ways, by supporting local good causes and working with other local organisations to help further their aims.

Supporting the youth of our town and environs is a major aim, which we try to accomplish in a variety of ways. We distribute the Usborne Illustrated Dictionary4Life to year 6 pupils in Lyme Regis, Uplyme, Charmouth and Marshwood schools, we have made donations to local school libraries and to the town libraries in both Lyme Regis and Charmouth. Donations to local Scout Groups in Charmouth and Lyme Regis, to the Lyme Regis Majorettes and the Youth Club. We fund the summer reading project run by Lyme Regis library and we have made donations to the Sailing Club, Memory Cafe and many other worthy causes.

In addition we regualrly have a presence at local fetes and assist with marshalling and collecting at a number of events in the town. We have a small garden area in Langmoor gardens which we maintain and in which we have planted many Purple4Polio crocusses, with the help of local scouts and we have recently funded the planting of an oak tree to commemorate the life of the late Queen Elizabeth II. But this is not a one-way street, by any means, for we are delighted that many of the organisations in the town respond to our pleas for help in running major projects such as the Lunge and Candles on the Cobb. We are proud to be a truly integral part of town life.
