Group entries with up to 12 participants
Young people, with the support of their school, Scout, Guide or other community, are invited to present a project on one or more topics concerning reducing waste or carbon emissions.
The project will show understanding of the topic, why it is important and offer some solutions to problems. If there are financial costs involved, these should be worked out.
Choose a topic from the following list or decide and explore your own topic within the themes of waste or carbon emission reduction.
• Turn waste into new useful objects or art
• Address problems of ‘fast fashion’
• Explore ways of reducing food waste – at home, at school, within community, in shops
• Increase use of still edible but discarded food
• Find uses for single-use plastic items
• Find novel ways of using plastic
• Reducing litter in your environment – school or local community
• How to reduce carbon-emitting travel – family, school, local community or nationally and internationally
• Go Net Zero: work out your team or family carbon footprint and how to reduce it
• Explore ways to reduce throwing away of products and items which are still usable.
• Re-wilding of a particular area – at home, at school or in local community
• Re-ponding: restore a pond to increase its positive environmental impact
• Plant wildflower seeds or bulbs and explore how they have an impact on their environment
• Written and illustrated projects
• Artistic presentations
• Photographic presentations
• Audio or video reports
• Music or dance presentations
• Technology
THE PRIZES
3 prizes within each age group: £100 for the winning group, to help with carrying out the project.
Two individual prizes to the value of £50.
Members of the Rotary Club will be involved in the judging of projects.
