RotaKids is Growing

We welcome Kinnoull Primary School to RotaKids

With two schools now signed up to the Perth Rotary Club family we are hopeful that this will be the beginning of a few more!  Oakbank Primary School have been beavering away for a few years now and in 2024 we were delighted to welcome Kinnoull Primary School.

Both schools are extremely enthusiastic and it is a joy to go and visit them and hear all about their ideas and projects!

Being a member of RotaKids involves carrying out a minimum of 2 projects each year. One should be for the local community and that can be within their own school and one project must help increase awareness of international issues.

Independently both schools this year decided that their schools would participate in the Shoebox appeal for their International Project. So working with the Baptist Church, they filled a large amount of boxes which they then handed over to the church for onward delivery.  Visiting Oakbank school the other week, the pupils presented a Powepoint Presentation (one the RotaKids  had prepared for the whole school). Very professionally the pupils outlined what was required and supplied all the information the pupils would need to make this happen.   An extremely impressive piece of work.

The pupils have now embarked on their Community Projects and this year both will take place within the school environment.  Oakbank are planning to improve the play facilities for their Intensive Support pupils and are looking at building a new sandpit and water wall. They are busy writing letters and emails to local builders and DIY shops in an effort to enlist support and supplies.  Kinnoull have very limited green spaces within their playground area and their goal is to try and improve this. Having very little gardening knowledge, amongst them, an  introduction was made  to the  Walled Garden at Murray Royal. All the P7 pupils visited the garden a few weeks ago and the staff are very keen to make a visit to the school now and see what help and advice they can offer.   Both schools know that if there is anything Perth Rotary can do too, they just have to ask!  You have been warned!
