2026-27 Young Artist Competition

Information about the 2026-27 competition

Young Artist 2026 - 2027

Share your creative talents with a wide audience by taking part in our Rotary Young Artist competition. Express yourself with your interpretation of this year’s theme, as set out in the Information Pack, and submit a piece of two-dimensional artwork.

Your artwork will go through a local stage first, followed by the district heats and then, if you are lucky, on the national final.

The competition is open to artists up to the age of 17 (as of 31st August 2026).

The theme for the 2026-27 competition is ‘Friendship’.

The ‘Friendship’ theme can be interpreted as broadly as the Young Artist wishes and does not need to conform to a dictionary definition. Young people are encouraged to use their creativity to show what this theme means to them.

The competition aims to encourage young people to:

  • be creative
  • develop skills in using traditional, contemporary or digital media
  • demonstrate interpretation of the topic
  • express personal ideas through their chosen medium or mediums

The competition is open to all young people within the age groups shown below. They may be an individual choosing to enter directly themselves or amongst the entries submitted by a group or community organisation including schools and colleges, home educated, other young peoples’ community organisations, for example, community RotaKids or Interact, Scout Groups, Girl Guides, etc.

There are three age groups:

Junior:
Up to and including 10 years old
Intermediate:
11 to 13 years old
Senior:
14 to 17 years old

Entrants must not be over the upper age parameter for each group on 31 August 2026.

The task is to create one finished two-dimensional unframed, piece of artwork based upon the theme, ‘Friendship’.

Artwork may be created in any medium or mediums for example pen and ink, paint, collage, printmaking or digital formats.

To accompany the submission, each entrant must provide a brief sentence describing the relationship of the artwork to the theme.

Up to three entries per club may be submitted to District, one in each age category. The winners in each age group in the District will be submitted for consideration at the national final.

The exact date of deadline in February 2027 for clubs to submit their entries to District will be announced.
