As a new Rotary year is about to begin I am sure that most clubs have now completed the handover process, and we are all beginning to get familiar with our new roles. In this regard might I ask, please, that this ‘snippet’ be forwarded to the most appropriate person for onward transmission to club members? Thank you for your help in keeping the work of ShelterBox in our minds.
Sadly, the need for this work continues unabated and the Atlantic hurricane season, which has just started, is one regular event that creates shelter needs. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting a 60% chance of an above-normal season, which means that there may be three to five major Atlantic hurricanes this year. This is why ShelterBox have launched their Stock the Box Appeal to ensure they can have their pre-positioned stores stocked and ready.
Thanks to the generosity of Rotary clubs and community support, this means that when tropical storms strike, they can rapidly mobilise emergency shelter to vulnerable communities. And, very encouragingly, a supporter has kindly pledged to match Rotary donations for Stock the Box up to a total of £25,000: so, if you donate £250 this will be matched, providing £500 to buy shelter kit. Thank you for considering helping those made homeless in times of disaster.
I am anticipating a busy couple of months as I attend various events and make visits, and I look forward to meeting many of you in the process. As always if you would like a talk or any assistance with a display, including a tent, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can also put you in-touch with other volunteers who can also help.
For now, my thanks for all your support and fellowship.
Yours in Rotary and as ever,
P. Kerr Fulton-Peebles
