As you will see by the Wheelchair Foundation web site, not only is it the joy of giving it also promotes joy and delivers hope, mobility, freedom, dignity and independence.
I will not go into all the housekeeping details as they are explained in the leaflet.
During the last 3 years our district has provided over 300 Wheelchairs to needy people all over the world, many of them children. The containers have gone to Tanzania, Nepal and we are well on the way to getting another one to Nepal.
I have been with the Wheelchairs when they were handed over and have seen the look on their faces when you sit them in a wheelchair and tell them it is theirs to keep.
How does the scheme work?
A club from the district contacts me re-getting a wheelchair to where ever----- We contact a rotary club in that area to make sure they will handle the container, this may mean driving many miles to collect it from the nearest port. They will keep the contents safe until we arrive to help with the hand over
During this time I will set to and raise the funds (Sometime with the help of a Matching Grant) when everything is in place we set about ordering the chairs from China and looking for a cheap flight. This will not be done until the W/ Chairs have left China.
If any Rotarian wishes to come with us they are always welcome. Like me, we all have to pay our way. This usually costs around
