St.Andrews Rotary Club entered the Rotary GB&I Young Chef of the Year Competition, for the first time this year. The first round held at Madras College on January 29th , was won by 16 year old Katie Lamb from New Gilston. Katie's winning menu of Winter Turkey casserole, with dauphinoise potatoes, and pears poached in mulled wine with vanilla cream, found favour with the Judges who were led by R&A Head Chef Craig Sneddon. Craig has been a huge help to the contestants, and gave some invaluable advice to Katie, as she went on to win the District North Final on February 16th, at Aberdeen College. Adding a starter of Clapshot Soup with haggis bonbons, and a chilli mango coulis, to her first round dishes, she saw off the other contestants in style. She now goes to Newcastle on March 16th for the Regional Final and we wish her well.
