Since 1971, the Club has run an annual football competition for primary school children.   All the north east Fife primary schools are invited to send a team and this year nine teams had entered.   They gathered at the two pitches of Canongate Primary School in St Andrews at 6pm on Monday 8th June.    The teams were allocated to one or other of two groups with the intention of a 'round robin’.    There was lots of excitement as play got under way.    Matches were of 10 minutes with no change of ends.    The preliminaries completed, the two leading teams from each group played semi-finals.   These were Greyfriars versus Anstruther ‘A', and Canongate ‘A' against Wormit.   After 15 minutes play, which included change of ends, Greyfriars and Wormit competed in the final match.   Parents who were keenly watching cheered and encouraged from the sidelines.    The referee later commented the standard had been remarkably good for primary school children.    However, Wormit were two goals to nil ahead when the final whistle blew.    Making a few remarks, Rotarian Austin Dunn established the children had enjoyed the event and were very keen it should take place in a year’s time.   Austin thanked Mrs Birtwhistle, headmistress of Canongate School, and the two referees, Mr Alec Ingram and Mr Sean Heaney.   Rotary Club President Andrew Aitken presented gifts to the finalists.    The team members from Wormit Primary School, in no particular order are seen celebrating with the Trophy and their commemorative plaques.   The Wormit team were Jack Ewen (Captain), Fraser Bluff, Fraser McEwan, Nik Edwards, Tim Edwards, Patrick Mulderry, Andrew Sinclair, Harry Martin, Max Zomerdijk-Russell and Cameron Potter.
