Young Chef. 

Young Chef is a four-stage national competition to support and encourage development of cookery skills. 


The competition aims to encourage young people to:

Learn how to cook a healthy meal

Develop food presentation skills

Consider food hygiene issues

Develop organisational and planning skills

Develop an ability to cope in a demanding situation

Who can take part?

The competition is open to all students who are in full time education and between the ages of 11 and 17 on 31 August 2017.  Those in part-time (day release) education are not eligible to take part. 

It is intended for amateurs; in other words, someone not in full, or regular part time, employment in the catering trade.  Youngsters, who have been temporarily employed by restaurants during the school holidays however, may take part. 

The Four Stages of the Competition:

Local Heats - September to December

District Finals – 20th January 2018 (in Aberdeen) and 27th January 2018 (in Dundee)

Regional Finals - mid-February to March

National Final: 28 April 2018 to be held at The Abraham Darby Academy, Telford TF7 5HX, starting at 12 noon.
