PeaceJam UK Conference Winchester 2016

Come and experience the electric atmosphere when a group of young people come together to engage in Peace Building. You will be amazed and inspired........

For 3 years the Rotary Club of Jersey has enabled a group of young people from Jersey to attend the annual PeaceJam UK conference at Winchester.

To quote the youngsters involved, their experience has been “Life Changing”.

Each year only a small number could travel to the UK to attend.  A PeaceJam Slam involves bringing the inspirational speakers to local young people in Jersey.  We hope by these means to engage with 100 local students in the 14 to 16 age group.  Their Slam will run at the same time as our conference on Saturday morning 13th October, in a hall next door to our House of Friendship.  It will also continue through the afternoon until around 16:00.

For those delegates who have not been fortunate to attend a PeaceJam event, this will be an opportunity for you to sample the incredible atmosphere generated when the young people get really involved.  Do mark your diary now, to visit the Slam on the Saturday afternoon.  On registration, we ask you to indicate if you hope to attend so that we have some idea of the numbers we can expect.

All this activity arises from the Rotary Club of Jersey’s Peace Island Project which also includes:

  • an annual Student Peace Debate in the States of Jersey Chamber (our parliament).
  • engagement with community groups to identify areas in which we can work together to encourage our community to live in peace and harmony.
  • as a direct result of this activity certain secondary schools are now incorporating elements of the PeaceJam curriculum in their school curriculum.
