End Polio Now

The campaign to eradicate polio is Rotary’s most important programme.

Rotary started the PolioPlus campaign back in 1985 to protect the children of the world.  We began working with partners including the WHO, UNICEF and the Bill and Milinda Gates Foundation, on the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988. Since then, polio’s incidence has dropped by 99.9% and is endemic in just two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

This is an incredible turnaround but, until poliovirus transmission is interrupted in these countries, all countries remain at risk. Polio is only a plane ride away.
