Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Wrexham Erddig

New Rotary Year - New President

President Albert Ellison will lead the Rotary Club of Wrexham Erddig through the next twelve months starting from July 2010. Albert takes over from Tom Lewis, pictured here handing over the chain of office. Albert, a former Round Tabler, joined Rotary in 1999 and has held many different positions within the club. He is well placed to oversee the wide range of service projects which the club takes on each year. Albert is the founder and MD of Ellison Sensors International, a Wrexham-based firm set up in 1977. The company makes and supplies electronic sensors for aerospace and oil and gas industries worldwide. Married to Jean with 3 children and 2 grandchildren, the new Rotary president is looking forward to his year in office and paid a warm tribute to outgoing President Tom Lewis for what he had achieved in the past year.

Rotary Aquaboxes for Pakistan

When disaster strikes, such as the current flooding in Pakistan, establishing a supply of safe drinking water is a priority. Rotary Clubs are supplying AQUABOXES to the disaster area. These are rigid plastic containers with filters and are used for filtering contaminated water and making it safe to drink. This supply of safe water helps reduce diarrhoea epidemics which can lead to many deaths. The ROTARY CLUB OF WREXHAM ERDDIG has sponsored two special types of box called AQUA30s.  Boxes cost £250 each and are supplied with 30 special water filters and water purification tablets. Each box is capable of making 33,000 litres of water which is enough safe drinking water for 120 people for 4 months. Typically the AQUA30 is used under supervision in hospitals, clinics, schools and emergency field treatment centres. This is a modest contribution relative to the scale of the disaster, but the combined efforts of a large number of clubs and other donors are being coordinated by the Rotary Club of Rickmansworth. For the Haiti disaster, more than 2,600 Aquaboxes of various types have been shipped since January. There is more info at www.aquabox.org
