President's Message 2010-2011
President John Spedding
Message from John Spedding, President 2010-2011
I am Clitheroe born and bred, and very proud to be a member of the Rotary Club of Clitheroe, and even more so to be its President in 2010-2011. I will do my utmost to ensure we have a successful year!
Rotary is a service organisation which works across local, national and international communities to advance understanding, goodwill and peace in today's society. We are a very active Club, which helps support local organisations in a variety of ways, and does lots of fund raising for charitable cause both at home and abroad, and yet we also manage to leave time for social events. By combining our skills and resources, members of Rotary are able to make a real contribution to the lives of others.
One of my Charities will be the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society, both locally and nationally - I suffer from MS and these groups do not get any government funding, so they need all the help they can get. As a good example of our activities, we have already held a Golf Day, on the 14th July 2010, in conjunction with The Captain of Mytton Fold Golf Club, which has raised £1500, to be shared equally between the MS Society and Derrian House Children's Hospice. (Photo below).
I have chosen a great team to help me lead the Club, and hopefully we shall have great year. I would just like to finish with my thanks to my predecessor, Miles Leadbeater - I think he did a great job as President, and if I can do half as well, I will be very pleased.
