Help for Duke of Edinburgh Scheme for Wensleydale School
Mr Phillip Benages, Headmaster of Wensleydale School spoke to members on progress with improving standards and achievements at the school.
Mr Benages had last spoken to the Club over 2 years ago when achievement levels were very low and the school was in 'special measures'. In the recent GCSE results Y11students achieved 88% 5A*-C grades and 80% 5A*-C grades with English and Maths.
Mr Benages expressed his pride in the work of students and teachers in achieving these standards which were the best in North Yorkshire and in the top 5% nationally.
In discussing school facilities mentioned that work on the new all weather sports pitch at the school is to commence in the next week. He also mentioned local management changes in the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme which now works from the school, and plans are being developed to enable a broader spectrum of school children to participate in the scheme.
Members raised points on a number of the points mentioned by Mr Benages, and congratulated
him and all at the School for the transformation of the school with all the benefits that brings for children in The Dales.
