The Rotary Foundation transforms members donations into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. More than 90% of donations go directly to supporting our service projects around the world.

Foundation is the charitable arm of Rotary. It was set up in 1917 as an endowment by the then outgoing President Arch Klumph for the purpose of doing good in the world. That one idea and an initial contribution of $26.50 set in motion foundation which has transformed millions of lives around the world since its inception.

During the past 100 years, the Foundation has spent $3 billion on life - changing sustainable projects.

Rotary is dedicated to six areas of focus to build international relationships, improve lives and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever.
The Foundation causes are: Promoting Peace, Providing Clean Water, Saving Mothers and Children, Supporting Education, Growing Local Economies and Fighting Disease

Foundation can support local causes through District Grants and International Projects through Global Grants.

Clubs continue to support End Polio Now and to promote this global project our club has purchased and planted over 20,000 crocus bulbs in the last few years. Only three countries in the world still have polio, Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan. This work is also greatly supported by the Bill Gates Foundation.

In the past our club sent out ambulances to Bosnia in the 1990’s.

There is a proposal currently being mooted to build a Maggies Centre at the site of the new Dumfries Infirmary.

The South West Scotland Area Clubs are currently looking to work together to raise £250,000 over a two to three period conditional on getting Designated District Funding from District. Rotary’s aim would be to provide a Rotary Branded facility within this new centre. It would be terrific if Rotarians all working together could achieve this aim.

To be a sustaining member of Rotary and support Foundation’s work is currently £75 per year.
Standing Order forms can be obtained from Convenor, David Gibson or cheques can be made payable to Rotary Foundation and handed to David.

Our Foundation Committee members this year are: David Gibson (Convenor), Gavin Borland, Colin Sutherland and Les Sutton.
