Welcome to the July Members' Newsletter, linking you to news, resources and information from the RIBI Secretariat or provided to the Secretariat. It is emailed, monthly, to all 30,000+ members whose email address is on the RIBI database. If Club Secretaries are aware of members with an email address, but not on the RI database, please forward to them (and, ideally, add their details to the database.)
Members' Newsletter editions are archived on the RIBI website, in the Updates area, and members are no longer required to login to gain access. The Updates area will also provide latest information that may be issued in between newsletters.

Action: Rotarian Golfers
We are sure you were disappointed to learn that the 26th RIBI Golf Club Championship was cancelled largely due to a decline in the number of teams participating. As current champions, we at The Rotary Club of Leicester feel that we should try to save the Championship in some form.
The Rotary Club of Sutton in Ashfield which has run this event so successfully over the past 25 years has given its support and good wishes to our intention to save the Championship.
We are inviting you to participate in the revised 2012 Championship on the following basis:
A one-off event at The Leicestershire Golf Club on Wednesday 12th September 2012.
Teams of two - Aggregate Stableford (individuals are welcome prize for best score).
Handicaps limited to 24 for men and 30 for ladies (higher handicap players may participate).
Any surplus arising on the event to be donated to the End Polio Now Campaign.
More information and an entry form can be found here which should be returned as soon as possible together with your remittance. Applications will be accepted on a first come basis and should be sent to arrive no later than 10th August 2012.
We would hope that the Championship in 2013 will revert to a District Qualifying format, but feel that for practical reasons the interim format in 2012 is advisable.

Interest: Club Rotarians
WaterAid has launched a new project in The Samfya District in Zambia where all funds received from Rotary clubs will be directed to this year. In The Samfya District only 0.6% of the population has access to a safe place to go to the toilet and 7.1% has access to a clean supply of water. With the support of Rotarians and their clubs, and at a cost of less than £17 a head, we will reach over 9,200 people with these basic human needs.
Visit the WaterAid website for more information and to request a free speaker to come and talk to your club about this vital work. Alternatively you can call WaterAid on 020 7793 4594.
One of the ways you could raise funds to support The Samfya District Project is by taking part in Coast Along for WaterAid on 15 September. With over 240 coastal paths and over 6 flagship walks why not encourage your club and whole community to walk for water for The Samfya District Project. For more information and to find your local path click here or call us on 020 7793 4594.

Action: Club Environment Chairs
The Woodland Trust have brought back the date for applications for free trees under their Jubilee Tree project from the 8th October to the 31st July and the application list may even close before then. This is due to heavy demand.
Trees are for planting in November. Free trees for community projects can be applied for by going to their web site - Small (60 trees); Medium (105 Trees) or Large (420 trees).
More trees will be available for planting next Spring but they will not qualify as Jubilee Trees and will not be included in the register to be presented to Her Majesty giving details of all tree planting community projects.
To go on the register, they do not necessarily have to be trees supplied by The Woodland Trust, so it would be nice to find that all clubs who have planted trees this year have registered the fact with the Trust.

Standing Order donations to RFUK
|
|
|

|
|
|
Interest: Club Rotarians
RFUK has held a bank account with Cater Allen Private Bank for many years, and a significant number of standing order donations from Rotarians to RFUK have been set up to be paid into this account. Cater Allen has made a policy decision to close all such corporate accounts during 2012.
We would like to advise you that arrangements have been made with our new bankers, CAF Bank, to automatically switch all such donations for the benefit of the RFUK account held with them. At this stage, we do not anticipate the need for you to make changes to your standing order mandate with your own banks.
This switching process should be effective towards the end of July. We will contact individual donors direct if any problems arise.
Please contact the RIBI Finance Department if you have any concerns or queries on 01789 768113.

Bill Huntley Endowment Fund

The Bill Huntley Endowment is Complete
The Bill Huntley Endowment for Rotary Peace Fellowships is now complete and the final gift value of the fund is $502,388. On behalf of Audrey Huntley and the family and the Rotary Peace Centres I offer my sincere appreciation for the outstanding support received from Rotarians and Rotary clubs.
The financial product of the Endowment will fund a Rotary Peace Fellow every three years or thereabouts and in the first instance the funds will be applied to a successful candidate from the RIBI geographical area if one exists at that time.
