Gainsborough is a newly re-developed care home central to the amenities of Swanage town in Dorset.

As part of the James Day Care Centre a thriving community hub. The home offers not only high quality accommodation, a homely atmosphere and a fantastic garden, but the opportunity to enjoy all the home comforts and security of a first class care home, whilst still being in the heart of the local community.

The site/building operated as a care home for over 20 years before closing down due to the termination of the lease agreement between Dorset County Council and the incumbent Provider. The care operation was closed and the site/building deregistered circa March 2010. Agincare Homes Holdings have now invested in the redevelopment and refurbishment of the home for use as a care home for older people, as required by Dorset County Council contracts.

This is taking part in two phases of opening.

Phase One registration, which is now complete, includes:
25 bedrooms of varying shapes and size (though all 12 sqm or above), all used as single rooms and approximately half of which have en-suite facilities. There are several assisted bathroom/wet-room and WC facilities on each floor.

The home is arranged over two floors. The first floor is accessed by stairways and a passenger lift. There are 2 communal lounges and 1 dining room on the ground floor, with 1 lounge/diner upstairs. Most areas of the home overlook mature, well maintained gardens and/or the local views.

The gardens offer seating, ramped access to pathways with support railings and sheltered space. There is a pond and feature fountain.

There are ample catering and laundry facilities on site, along with office accommodation. Equipment for moving and handling support is available on site.

Phase Two will involve full completion of the site, which will result in 45 rooms, will be completed in late Spring 2013.

Care is primarily for older people over the age of 65, with dementia care provision included.
