Mike was one of our Founder members when the club set up in 1983. With his interests in agriculture and his links to the University, he had a close link to many international students so it was natural for him to join the International Committee. This was a committee he was to chair on a number of occasions and as a member of this committee he went on to organise - International Evenings at both the Town House and the Mains of Scotstown, bus trips to Baxters and Glenfiddich, was involved in selecting our Glover scholars as well as hosting many of our visiting Glover scholars from Japan. Through his many trips overseas he always tried to attend a local Rotary club. Mike was a remarkable Rotarian and whilst he was never Club President- he turned it down on a few occasions , he always did his best for the club. He was always keen to keep the club members united and arranged club BBQ at his farm, spending most of the day taking children on tractor trips round the farm to see the animals. He also organised many club trips for club members, including trips to the new Council buildings, the International School and First Bus. Despite his health issues he never gave up and was often regaling stories to us all about taking the grand children to the park but falling when he was on the round about or trying to stop his car from running out of his drive way but fell instead. Mike was always smiling no matter what the circumstances were. He enjoyed sharing his memories when we had our 20th Birthday party. He was an inspiration to us all and Club President Moyra had great pleasure in awarding the Club's first Paul Harris Award to Mike Daw.
The second Paul Harris Award went to Graham Donaldson. Graham wasn't a founder member but joined the Club in its early months and got himself involved in many club activities. Graham was President in 1998-99 and has been the Club Secretary for the last 9 years. Despite his many travels abroad, holidays and a Rotary trip to Nagaskai, he always ensures club members receive the information we need, distributing many emails to us all. He has been a particular help to the current President Moyra, always there to give advice when needed and to keep us on the Rotary path.
