CHARTER CELEBRATIONS

CELEBRATION OF OUR SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

Over 120 Rotarians and friends celebrated the 74th anniversary of the founding of the Rotary Club of Mirfield at a gala dinner at Berties Banqueting Room in Elland on 8 November.

Addressing the distinguished group, President Linda Tempest said: 'We're a strong club, making a difference to people's lives locally and further afield.

'Locally, we have affirmed our young people through Young Chef, Youth Sail, Rotary Leadership Award and Technology Tournament.

'Ww've served the community through our involvement with the Mirfield Community partnership and by offering free blood pressure checking at Mirfield Agricultural show.

'Our international charitable work has been outstanding. I'm proud that we have established connection with Rotary in Cochin (India), where with our support the local club is currently building a block of public toilets. There is also near Cochin, a water project which we facilitated. In the remote part of Tanzania (in Ukerewe) a team of Rotary volunteers led by our club has made substantial contributions to the lives of many.

One member has been helping to introduce IT training in Nepal.

We've supplied over 1000 shoe boxes to deserving people in Eastern Europe. We continue to support Rotary's number one priority - Polio Eradication.

'You have given me friendship and advice during the past five months. I hope we will continue to grow as a club and enjoy Rotary whilst serving others less privileged than ourselves.'
