Visit to West Yorkshire archives, Morley

Thu, Feb 6th 2014 at 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Visit organised by Rtn James Mounty

James Mounty led a party of Rotarians on Thursday 6th February to the new West Yorkshire Archive Service for Leeds now based in Morley. After a welcome cup of tea we were shown a fascinating file of the Club's own archive, some of which is held by the service.

Carl Kenneally, Archivist, outlined to us the work of the Leeds Archive Service in particular and that of the other offices located throughout the County in Bradford, Calderdale and Wakefield, and forthcoming developments.

The West Yorkshire Archive services collects and looks after the unique documentary heritage of the region and helps members of the public use and enjoy these records by offering a free public service. They collect and preserve millions of records of all kinds dating from the 12th century to present day.
