Speaker from Whizz Kidz - at the Rose and Crown

Thu, Aug 20th 2015 at 12:00 am -

This week saw us back at the Rose and Crown where the food was again excellent and plentiful if a little slow, but to be fair they were rammed downstairs.  We made up for the slow service with an early comfort break and much discussion about Rotary matters.  We welcomed Sue, a guest of Michelle who we hope to see again.

Our speaker for the evening was Tammy Pearce from Whizz Kids, a charity which provides wheelchairs for kids.  Each child gets a fully customised wheelchair and it takes about a year to raise funds for every life changing chair.  A very worthwhile cause and we gave a donation of £35 as part of our new policy.  Here are the links for their website, facebook page and to the video Tammy was unable to find.

Grace & fines were with Leila and the vote of thanks was given by Donald.  The Raffle was won by John Bacchus.

A couple of notices for the week.

Whilst I was at the historic joint presidents meeting (there were 5 clubs represented!) David Whitehead (Chelmer Bridge) was having a nag about the Chelmsford golf - surely we have a team???  Do we have a golf secretary?  He suggested "Having a word with Sheaddy".  I'm sure our excellent golfers have a plan for greatness.  Not one was present on Thursday, those of us at Rotary thought maybe you were all playing golf.

The other matter arising at this meeting is that Rtn Tony Dutch from Colchester Forum is doing a "Bus Pass Marathon" and is looking to meet up with other clubs on the way.  He will be arriving at Chelmsford Bus Station at between 9.30 and 10 on Monday night and is hoping for clubs to turn up with pennants etc. Nobody present was interested in hanging around there on Monday - but I know that Dave Almond from Chelmsford Mildmay is super keen and will be there - if anyone is thinking they fancy joining him I suggest you give him a bell - his current contact no is 268664 (chelmsford I guess)

Billericay Mayflower have their Bell Boat race on Sunday 13th September, Mark and I have a few friends who are interested in joining us - are any of the club interested?  Leila will join us if we can get up a team, otherwise she will be a good Rotarian and join Billericay Mayflower.  Could you please let me or Leila know if you are interested.

The week after next we have a visit (3rd Sept) we have a visit to Chelmsford Police Museum and control room which Bill has asked for names for, 20 places only.  The visit starts at 7.30 and there is no meal.  I suggested this might be a chance to try out Zizzi in Chelmsford for any who fancy, probably before the visit - around 6pm?  Claire pointed out that those of us with Tastecards get 2 for 1 meals there.  Let me know if anyone is interested and I will book some tables, or TBH we could just turn up at that time.

Next week we are back at the R&C for a talk on the Chelmer Canal Trust.  Menu choices/ apologies to Bill by Monday night please.
