Social - at the College

Thu, Oct 8th 2015 at 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Well, we had another fine turnout at college for what was billed as a 'social' evening. There were no guests to welcome and we started with Jan D saying Grace. The meal was, I thought, really good - lets hope it continues throughout the year. There were not too many announcements:

Bill chased all for more support on the Race night; the numbers are very small and we need a good many more - please join in if you possibly can, even if it might not be your cup of tea.

I asked if anyone had IT equipment for the Mildmay project; if you do please let me know and I can arrange to take it along.

I gave details of Mayor's charity dinner on Friday 13 Nov; if anyone is interested I can supply further details

The club screen has still not been located so can everyone please rack their brains for where this might be; we think last time it was used was for the Jamie Oliver food thing at Miami.

After the usual comfort break, David and Jan got us all being highly creative - making bracelets from loom bands! When the kits were given out, there were some very strange faces but the room quickly became very quiet, industrious and a little competitive. The products of our work, and the much greater supply of unused materials, will be taken by Leila out to her Smiles charity children so wins all round. Many thanks to David & Jan for a good idea and well done to all.

The raffle was won by Roger and Jan D imposed numerous fines.

Next week there is club council, my house 8pm, Monday 12th. As always, if anyone not on club council wishes to attend, you are most welcome.

On Thursday we will be at college for a talk on Riding for the Disabled, which of course is this year's lead charity.

In 2 weeks time it will be Rotary End Polio day but Phoenix is ahead of the game!. Our golf team of Bryan, Malcolm and Roger recently won £750 for the club by coming 3rd in a national Rotary Golf competition so many congratulations to them. A condition of the award was that the club used the funds for a donation to End Polio. Sheila has recorded this as an in/out in our accounts so we now show a generous donation of £750 to 'End Polio Now'! Well done to all - especially the golf team.
