Interact Club Visit

Five years ago Rotarian Clive Sherer started an Interact Club for senior students at the town’s Comprehensive School.  The school’s head teacher, Dr Vince Brown, enthusiastically supported the venture for students in years twelve and thirteen who now meet every week in the sixth form block.  Rotarian Don Carsley took over the link between the Interact and Rotary clubs when Clive Sherer’s work frequently took him abroad. 

On Monday l9th November four visitors from the Interact Club attended a meeting of the our Rotary Club  and joined us for a meal at the West House Hotel.  They were Alice Thomas President, Luke James Treasurer, Tamara Pitt Secretary and club member Chloe Hughes. Afterwards Alice spoke to the Rotary members and told us about some of the Interact activities that have taken place this year. These have included trying to create a mile of copper coins and making cakes to sell to other students and staff.  All the money raised has gone to good causes especially this year to cancer charities.  Alice said that all the Interact members had enjoyed the year but as the present officers are all in the second year of their ‘A’ level courses this would be their last year in school before many go to university or other courses.  Elections for next year’s club leaders would take place in May.

President Dr David Rogers thanked the four for coming to Rotary and said that our club was very proud of what the Llantwit Major Comprehensive School Interact Club had achieved.  They were all socially aware students and very much an example to others.
