'Rotary Roundup' at the College

Thu, Feb 11th 2016 at 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Rob Peters and Dave Almond will be talking about the new Rotary 'slot' on Chelmsford Community Radio.

Rotary life starting to get busy for me again. On Monday, I attended Chelmsford Joint Presidents meeting; not a great deal to report really. 3 of the other clubs announced dates for their Presidents dinner'lunch and when I get full details I will circulate those.

On Tuesday it was back into the CCR studio to start recording this month's radio programme.

So to Thursday which was a new venture for us; meeting at the college but with takeaway food brought in. The food was little late arriving but I think all enjoyed it once it got there - at least I didn't see too many leaving much. The college staff looked after us well and whilst wouldn't want to do it often, I suppose it does open another avenue for us if we are stuck for a venue. Thanks to Jane for organising the food. We had no guests to welcome and Grace was said by Leila, who later extracted fines.

I gave a short talk about some of my experiences and trials in getting the radio programme on air and then Richard told us about Palindromic word squares and got us trying to compile our own. There seemed to be some 'unrotarian' activity amongst some people and Richard decided that the real winners were Jane and Mary. Thanks again to Richard for entertaining us with this. The raffle was won by Kathryn.

Next week we are due to be at Rose & Crown for a talk on Dementia support. Apologies and menu selections to Jane as usual.

On Saturday, we of course had the jumble sale and it looked to me that we had much larger supplies than on some previous occasions - thanks in no small part to the efforts of members (I think especially Michelle) in searching for jumble. Unfortunately we didn't seem to have many high value items. Bill tells me that the net profit was just over £500 so well done and thanks to everyone.
