Lunch meeting and speaker at the Knighton Hotel

Wed, Jan 17th 2018 at 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

All were welcome to the first of our regular meetings for 2018 when Cathy Jones talked briefly about Macadamiafans

Cathy explained about a project that involved students in Germany travelling to China, India and Kenya in groups of four and living wth families there for 4 weeks. The aim is for students to fundraise 2000 euro to travel as well as prepare themselves for the journey, give presentations to local schools where they are staying and also to the same on their return. In Kenya the students live with farmers and learn who to plant, harvest and process macadamia nuts. The nuts are packaged locally, hence providing employment for the whole community, and sent to Germany to be sold by the students and their families and friends. The Kenyan project is called Macadamiafans and you can find out more on their website. The benefits to the students and to the host communities can be seen on this YouTube video.....Our Club involvement is yet to be determined....
