Drs Julie Brady and David
Gray from Dundee University's Drug Discovery Unit presented an overview
of the drug discovery process and the success of the Unit in taking
potential new drugs into clinical trials.
In just ten years the Unit has built a strong national and international
reputation for their ability to originate and bring new drugs into the
market for people in need around the world. Their work has attracted
significant levels of funding from such as
The Welcome Foundation and The Bill Gates Foundation.
The presentation closed with a look at some exciting progress from the
Unit in ongoing clinical trials for new treatments for malaria and
leishmania and the recent partnerships with pharmaceutical companies to
develop treatments for Alzheimers and Parkinsons
Disease. A lively question and answer session completed an
entertaining and enjoyable meeting. Rotarian Jack Daniels provided a
well deserved Vote of Thanks to Julie and David for their presentation
and wished them continued success for the Unit
