Support for International initiatives

Rotary Response to War in Ukraine

Since the war began, Rotary clubs in Great Britain and Ireland have donated over £6m and given more than 100,000 volunteer hours to support Ukraine and its people.

Rotary’s impact includes supplying life-saving medical equipment, generators and constructing temporary homes in bombed villages.

Meridian Rotary has supported these initiatives with a donation.  We are also collecting and refurbishing mobile phones, and bicycles, for Ukrainian refugees in our community.

To donate a phone or bicycle please e-mail us at info@meridianrotary.co.uk

We support Shelter Box

Shelter is more than just a roof – it’s a home. It’s the foundation for life, for families, for communities, for peace.

Shelter Box works with disaster-hit families around the world, offering emergency shelter and other essential items to rebuild their lives.

They locate and store shelter boxes at strategic points around the world, so that disaster relief is both immediate and effective.

Turkey Earthquake disaster

Having somewhere dry and warm to sleep, to prepare meals and be with your family is vital for starting the long process of rebuilding your life.

East Grinstead Meridian has helped this charity since it began by helping to re-stock shelter boxes on a regular annual basis. We were available to help with the recent 2021 Haiti disaster and the current Turkey earthquake disaster Following a powerful and devastating earthquake in Turkey, Rotary is playing a role in the immediate and long-term response through ShelterBox, Mary's Meals and the Rotary Disaster Recovery Trust.

Lend with Care Initiative

Lend with Care is a microfinance lending website from the development charity CARE international UK, launched in 2010.

It allows entrepreneurs in developing countries to apply for loans which will help them improve their business and work their way out of poverty.

East Grinstead Meridian has made regular loans over many years to a wide range of entrepreneurs and has enjoyed a 100% record of repayment.

Rotary clubs have been helping communities grow by providing loans to entrepreneurs across the world. The scheme, working with the charity Lendwithcare, has so far provided more than £1.3 million from Rotary clubs to help those fighting their way out of poverty.
