Fundraising Football competition in memory of Darren Scott

GRIEVING FAMILY NEEDS A POSITIVE OUTCOME TO TRAGIC LOSS OF HUSBAND DARREN

Rotary Newton Aycliffe is assisting Donna Scott with the creation of a lasting legacy to husband Darren, who tragically died in February during a football game at South Shields. He collapsed after becoming ill and died pitch side despite the best efforts of his teammates providing CPR whilst awaiting the emergency services. Darren was a well-known figure across the town, both as a football coach for Newton Aycliffe Eagles under 15s and as a player for Cobblers Hall Football Club over 40s team. He was a dedicated family man and had many, many friends.

Donna wishes to raise money to install defibrillators at grass roots football sites across Newton Aycliffe with one of the units already supplied by club sponsors, Securicorp (NE) Ltd to the over 40s team and another given by Donna to the u15s. Two more are ready to go to other teams this season.

 ‘Casey’ and ‘Sparky’ joined up with members of Rotary Newton Aycliffe today at the Simpasture Playing Fields on the occasion of the Darren Scott Memorial Cup football competition. Darren tragically died in February during a football game at South Shields. He collapsed after becoming ill and died pitch side despite the best efforts of his teammates providing CPR. The event was the idea of Darren’s wife Donna who is helping raise money to install defibrillators at grass roots football sites across Newton Aycliffe. This was also an opportunity to raise awareness of cardiac arrest and the importance of defibrillators, with Community Champion Sutton-Lloyd on site offering drop-in training sessions on CPR and defibrillator use.
