German, Polish and Italian immigrants have settled in the area since the 19th century.

Gravatai River Project

District 1110 has strong links with District 4670 having arranged a number of Matching Grants for environmental projects supporting local Rotary clubs' initiatives to clean up this heavily polluted and environmentally sensitive river basin. This has culminated in a $1m 3H Grant from the Rotary Foundation last year. This will contribute to a $500m part state, part regionally funded programme to resolve water management problems, deforestation and pollution of a river which some one million people live alongside. Our team will have an opportunity to visit a number of the sites identified for this programme along with other cultural and vocational visits.
