Rotary Young Musician Competition 2013-2014

Region 7 Competition held at Bolton, 16 March 2014

Ben Fourie (french horn), Joe Davies (cello), Karen Wilkinson (vocalist) and Eleanor Turner (vocalist), represented our District providing wonderful and engaging performances at the Regional Final held in Bolton recently.  This final was between 4 Rotary Districts.  The winners who go through to the national finals are Calum Macdonald (euphonium) and Natasha Agarwal (vocalist) both from District 1180.  Congratulations to them and all the participants, who are already winners of previous competitions.

After the excitement last year of hosting both the District and the Region 7 Final, it's great to know that the popularity of the Competition is growing.  This page will be updated as information becomes available, but what follows is the situation in July 2013.  Dates and details are found below and by clicking here for information on the various downloads to find out more.

Follow this link for copies of the 2013-2014 Guidelines and Information for Competitors. Your first move should be to promote the Competition to Heads of Music in secondary Schools, Scout and Guide Groups, and any other connections available to you to identify likely Competitors.  

If you have insufficient Competitors to make a viable competition at your Club, you can

  • Form a judgment (with expert advice if necessary) as to whether the proposed entrant is of a sufficient standard
  • Hold a Competition among local Clubs to identify a Competitor in each category to represent that group of Clubs
  • Hold a musical event among a group of local Clubs with a view to identifying young musicians to represent each participating Club
