District 1190 Rotary Young Musician Competition 2016

The District Copetition was held at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Penrith on Sunday 7th February 2016.  The event was well attended by family, friends and various Rotary club members, who had all come to watch the young musicians provide some outstanding performances.  The final was divided into 2 classes - instrumental and vocal and each class had 5 young people from various schools around Cumbria & Lancashire.  A very enjoyable day indeed.

The names of the Winners & Runners-Up are:

Instrumental Class

Winner: Kezia Taylor aged 17 from Kirkham Grammar School.  Kezia played 2 pieces on the flute and was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kirkham & Rural Fylde.

Runner-Up: Isaac Butterworth aged 15 from Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Penrith.  Isaac played 2 pieces - 1 on the tenor tuba and 1 on the tuba and was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Penrith.

Vocal Class

Winner: Nicole Brown aged 17 from AKS Lytham Independent School.  Nicole sang 2 songs and was sponsored by the Rotary Club of St. Anne's-on-Sea.

Runner-Up: Ruth Jakubovic aged 16 from Runshaw College, Leyland.  Ruth sang 3 songs and was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Leyland.

Follow this link for copies of the 2015-2016 Guidelines and Information for Competitors. Your first move should be to promote the Competition to Heads of Music in secondary Schools, Scout and Guide Groups, and any other connections available to you to identify likely Competitors.  

If you have insufficient Competitors to make a viable competition at your Club, you can

  • Form a judgment (with expert advice if necessary) as to whether the proposed entrant is of a sufficient standard
  • Hold a Competition among local Clubs to identify a Competitor in each category to represent that group of Clubs
  • Hold a musical event among a group of local Clubs with a view to identifying young musicians to represent each participating Club
